こんにちは、Ellieです。2021年1月9日。札幌のソウルバーMAYBEの充さんが亡くなってから16回目の月命日となりました。自分でもいい加減嫌になるくらい、充さんを失ったことへの胸の痛みは相変わらず癒えませんが、新年一発目なので明るく行きたいと思います。
今回は充さんが以前くれたMAYBEセレクションのCDに入っていた曲、 Gwen McCrae（グウェン・マックレー）の Keep The Fire Burning（キープ・ザ・ファイア・バーニング）を紹介します。お店で聴いた記憶はあまりありませんが、充さんが周年パーティーで配るセレクションに入れたくらいだからきっと好きな曲だったはず。ディスコアレンジバージョンで、これを聴く度に気持ちよさそうに体を揺らす充さんの姿が目に浮かびます。
新年最初の曲にこれを選んだ理由は、タイトルにもなっている “Keep The Fire Burning（炎を燃やし続けて）” というフレーズが好きだから。今年も心の炎を燃やし続けて前に進んで行けるように、自分自身へのエールも込めて選びました。
ねえ、充さん。私たち今年中に札幌に引っ越すことにしたよ。MAYBEは今は牡蠣料理屋さんになってるって聞いたから、必ず遊びに行くね。待っててね。

"Keep the fire ...."のように動詞(keep)が頭に来るのは「命令形」
「○○して/しろ」という意味になります
ちなみに動詞の前または文の最後に"please"が付いても
文法用語での呼び方は「命令形」です
“keep + 動詞原形ing” で「○○し続ける」ですが
これが “keep + 名詞 + 動詞原形ing” となると ”keep”は使役動詞となり
「●●（名詞）が○○する状態を保つ」
「●●（名詞）に○○させ続ける」となります

“work on” は「（何かに）取り組む/（何かを）頑張ってやる」という意味

We say a lot of things that we really mean

“mean” は「意味する」という動詞です
直訳すると「私たちは本当に意味することをたくさん言う」
日常会話でも“I mean it.（本気だよ。）”と言う風によく使われます
